Locked Away

Locked Away was photographed in the River North area of Chicago while I was exploring the backs of buildings and storefronts with my camera. Just around the corner, the streets were busy, but in the alleyway no one was around, so I could slow down and really look. These two locks, set against a rusted door with its layers of peeling paint, color, and texture, felt almost sculptural — like someone had arranged them intentionally. I still wonder how long the doors have been locked, and what might be waiting on the other side.
